Sienna On The Charge
Fifteen-year-old Funkita athlete Sienna Toohey is just 0.23 secs from breaking Leisel Jones’ 24-Year-Old National Age Breaststroke Record in the 100m breaststroke. She’s also the 3rd fastest Australian this year in the event making her a shot at the Paris Olympic Team!
This comes after Sienna's inspiring performances at the Australian Age Championships where she smashed her own PBs and set numerous records on her way to collecting 4 gold medals and 1 silver. Her times were:
200m Individual Medley (2:16.65)
50m Breaststroke (31.58)
100m Breaststroke (1:07.72)
200m Breaststroke (2:29.52)
Sienna has now dropped her 100m Breaststroke time from 1:10 earlier in the year to her new PB of 1:07 moving her within distance of achieving an Olympic A time of 1:06.79.
There has been no break for Sienna who is now racing at the Australian Open Championships where she has already taken the podium with silver in the 50m Breaststroke. Her time of 31.43 was just behind winner Jenna Strauch. The bronze went to 39-year-old, mother-of-three, Sally (Foster) Hunter, making for a very sweet moment on the podium. Sienna was only a few months old when Sally competed at her first Olympics in 2008 and won her gold medal at the 2008 World Short Course Championships. Sally's time of 31.77 was only .8 slower than her lifetime best.
We can't wait to see how Sienna's progresses towards Olympic Trials in June but she has certainly put the swimming world on notice!
