Jess Conquers North Channel

On September 9th, Jess Robson became only the 136th person and the 54th female to conquer the challenging North Channel swim, from Donaghadee in Northern Ireland, to Portpatrick in Scotland. But what sets her apart from the others who have completed this swim is that she claimed the record as the youngest swimmer to achieve this feat at the age of 17. Her time of 11 hours and 46 minutes over a 41km is nothing short of extraordinary.

The journey began with the promise of a dreamy sunrise and calm waters, but nature had its own plans. Soon, thick fog and choppy waters tested Jess's spirit. Jess swam for hours on end, unable to see anything beyond the boat! It was a mental challenge like no other. Jess also encountered some nasty stings, but instead of faltering, Jess displayed unwavering determination.

Throughout the swim, Jess took her feeds every half an hour. These breaks weren't just for sustenance; they were precious moments for her to connect, chat, and share a laugh with everyone on the boat. Her feeds, delivered in a bottle on a line to avoid disqualifying touches with the boat, were a source of not just nutrition but also camaraderie.

Finally, when Jess stood on solid ground, she couldn't hold back her emotions. Overwhelmed by what she had achieved, Jess broke down in tears. Her sense of pride in her remarkable achievement was shared by everyone around her. And in an unexpected twist of adrenaline-fueled celebration, she even did a cartwheel!  It was a moment that perfectly encapsulated the raw emotions of the journey.

Jessika's recovery has been progressing well. The first night was a challenge, especially with the jellyfish stings, but she's now on the path to full recovery. Already, she's eagerly planning her next adventures and relishing the opportunity to share her incredible swim with everyone she meets.

Jess had an exceptional crew on the boat, filled with people she loves and trusts. Their support and encouragement undoubtedly played a pivotal role in her success.  Jess' swim across the North Channel is a testament to her spirit and the power of determination. It's a story that will inspire so many. Her grit and courage, especially considering her age, is truly remarkable.
