Commonwealth Youth Games
Following on from the excitement of the World Champs, the next generation of world-class swimmers headed to Trinadad and Tobago for a week of racing at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games. It was a fantastic opportunity for swimmers aged 14-18 to test their skills on a big inertnational stage against the Commonwealth's best.
Our Irish F-Team duo, Grace Davison and Ellie McCartney, have had a massive Summer. They raced in Serbia in July at the European Junior World Champs before heading to the Carribean for the Comm Youth Games.

Ellie had a successful performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games, particularly in the 200m breaststroke event where she won Gold with a time of 2:30.89. She is really happy with this performance and was pleased to be close to her personal best following the peak meet of Euro Juniors. In the 100m breaststroke event, Ellie finished in third place with a time of 1:10.37, and she was pleased with this result as she had improved her time since the previous meet in Serbia. Ellie came away from the Commonwealth Youth Games with a real sense of accomplishment especially taking into consideration the challenges of competing in a different climate and time zone right after her peak event in Serbia.

Grace also had a remarkable performance at the Youth Commonwealth Games, particularly in the 400m individual medley event where she secured first place with a time of 4:58.5. Despite the challenges of the heat and travel, Grace was pleased with this performance. In the 200m individual medley event, Grace finished in second place with a time of 2:18.6. Having just raced at Junior Europeans, Grace was happy with her performances at the Games, especially since she had been dealing with tonsillitis in the two weeks leading up to the meet, making her gold and silver medals even more impressive. Grace revealed that this was her last meet for the season and she will now be taking a break for the summer before returning to training.
Be sure to follow our f-teamers to stay up to date with their training and racing!
