Funkita Team At Euro Juniors
The 2023 European Junior Swimming Championships in Serbia showcased some awesome swims from rising stars in the pool notably Funkita athlete and Team GB swimmer Leah Schlosshan.
Leah's performance this year has been nothing short of brilliant. Despite an injured back that has disrupted her training since the British Championships in April, where she just missed World Champs selection, Leah defended her 200m Individual Medley crown with an impressive time of 2.12.41, setting a new championship record.
In the 200m Freestyle, Leah swam a personal best time of 2.00.18 and is now determined to go under the 2-minute barrier. Leah has British Nationals and European U23s on her race calendar so she’s no doubt keen to keep the momentum going, hosing down speculation that she’d be retiring to focus on medicine studies, with her sights set on Paris in 2024!

Our two Irish stars Grace Davison and Ellie McCartney had a great meet with Ellie winning bronze in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:14.31. She also broke the 2:30 barrier in the 200m Breaststroke achieving a time of 2:29.43 and securing 8th place in the final. Making two finals on a big stage has given Ellie confidence leading into her upcoming international race schedule at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Grace had a strong 100m Freestyle with a time of 57.14 and she the swam a 2:03 in the 200m freestyle, achieving her fastest time of the year for a morning swim. She is on track for Commonwealth Youth Games as well and is excited to go faster.
With fellow F-Teamer Evan Bailey, Grace and Ellie teamed up with John Shortt to come 7th in the final of the 4 x 100m Medley Relay.
Well done to our Funkita athletes it was a great meet with plenty more action left for the season.
