Diving Nationals
For many of us the thought of standing at the top of a 10m diving platform is frightening, but not for our world class divers. The thought of qualifying for the Australian Team may be a little more nerve-racking for the elite, however, when the pool is calm and the lights are bright.
Funkita athletes Melissa Wu and Nikita Hains are two of our stars set to compete at the Australian Open Championships from June 1-4 at Aquanation in Melbourne. The meet serves as the qualification trials for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

One of Australia’s most renowned Olympic medalists, Melissa Wu, looks to add to her already decorated career. At the June trials Mel will be competing in the Women’s Platform Synchro, an event in which she has had great success over the years.
“My aspirations for this year are to qualify for the 2022 World Championships and Commonwealth Games. I will also be competing at the Canada Cup Grand Prix in Calgary the week after Nationals," she said. The 4-time Comm Games medalist is also excited to have Funkita on board to kit out the team in style. “I love that Funkita sponsors the Australian team. It means that I get to represent Australia in my favourite swimwear! Funkitas are super comfortable and I train in them every single day, so it's nice to take that confidence with me into every comp knowing that I can just relax and focus on my performance.”
Nikita Hains is also no stranger to the spotlight, having competed at the 2020 Tokyo Games and qualified for the 2020 and 2021 World Cup teams. A Commonwealth Games and World Championships berth is on the cards, and this is certainly her aspiration for 2022. In Melbourne she will contest the Women’s 10m individual and 10m synchro events.
Funkitas are also all Hains wears in training, and for both ladies the training is no easy feat. Their programs include 10 sessions per week plus and interestingly their competition-day approach is also almost identical too. Each of them likes to keep things simple to calm the nerves, and enjoy their favourite tunes to stay in the zone.
Be sure follow our Funkita divers to stay up to date with their progress! @melissapaigewu and @kitahains
Finals will be streamed on 7plus from 10:00am on Saturday 4 June.
