McKeown's inspiration to chase dream

Taylor chats about chasing her swimming dream.

After narrowly missing selection for London 2012, Funkita athlete Taylor McKeown used the immense disappointment she felt as her unwavering motivation to train for another four years to secure a place on the Rio team.

With two magnificent swims at the Australian trials, she achieved her goal, feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Despite her determination, her journey wasn't straightforward for Taylor having to overcome a torn adductor muscle earlier this year. It forced her to focus on her rehabilitation and to maintain a positive outlook despite the pain she endured.

Taylor's dedication has been evident at competitions in the build up to Rio. At the Swimming Australia Grand Prix in Brisbane in July, Taylor won the 200m breaststroke with a blistering time of 2:22.62. She also won the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:08.97.

Like most athletes, Taylor's competitive nature fuels her through the toughest training sessions. She loves racing and pushing her body to the limit.

"Racing is what I love most about swimming. I love trying my hardest and I love it when I surprise myself with a result."

Juggling training, school and university commitments requires Taylor to be organised and on top of her schedule. She loves speaking to aspiring swimmers and inspiring them to reach their full potential.

"Always do your best and let the results reflect your efforts."

We're so excited to see Taylor swim at the Rio in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
